A New Technique to Plan Your Time!

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant demands on our time. Between family, work, and personal ambitions and commitments, it can be challenging to stay organized and productive. Enter the "Stop, Review, Preview, Plus Two" method – a simple yet effective strategy to help you regain control of your days.

Understanding the Method

Inspired by organizational expert Julie Morgenstern's "Plan Plus Two" concept, this approach involves a quick four-step process to plan and prioritize your time effectively.

  1.  The Power of a Hard Stop:

To truly maximize the effectiveness of this method, consider implementing a "hard stop" at the end of your workday or as a transition between daily tasks and your “me” time.

All it takes is 15 minutes or less to complete your daily review and preview. Choose a specific time, set an alarm, and stick to it. Use this time to clear your desk, gather any needed materials, and mentally prepare for the following day.

  1.  Now It’s Time to Review Today:

Reflect on the day that just ended. What was accomplished? Cross those things off your list and celebrate your success. What was left unfinished and needs to be carried over?

  1.  Next is Your Preview of Tomorrow:

What are the most important tasks to get done? List what gets carried over and what you may need to start fresh. How can you prioritize your day to maximize your energy? Create a clear plan of action with realistic outcomes.

  1.  Finally Consider Plus Two:

Now look ahead to two days beyond tomorrow. Are there any upcoming deadlines, appointments, or events that require preparation? By anticipating future commitments, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed.

For example, if today is Tuesday, you should review today, preview Wednesday, and scan ahead for things happening on Thursday and Friday.  This way you don’t get caught unaware and will feel in control of your time and actions.

Remember flexibility is key. While structure is important, unexpected events can arise. Be prepared to adjust your plans as needed and maintain a positive attitude.

By dedicating a few minutes each day to this routine, you'll not only increase your efficiency but also enjoy a more relaxed and focused mindset. Imagine waking up each morning with a clear plan of action, knowing exactly what needs to be accomplished. This method empowers you to live intentionally and make the most of your time.
